John came to New England with his father on the "Abigail" in 1635. He was prominent in the affairs of Eastham, being one of the planters of the town and deacon for many years. He was Lt. Gov. to Josiah Winslow (1666-1692), was a major in the militia and saw service in the Indian Wars, was a member of the Bench of the Court of Common Pleas. His estate, consisting of land holdings, was extensive.

He was buried in Crim's Chapel Cemetery, Crim's Chapel, Rusk, TX. With two of his brothers, Walton J. and Loranza, moved to Texas in 1888. They settled in Crim's Chapel, near Henderson, TX. In 1890, William and Rachel moved the rest of thier family to Texas and also settled in Crim's Chapel. All other children married and reared families in the Crim's Chapel Community.

John apparently was wealthy. He purchased a large amount of land and built a nice country home. Three of his homes were destroyed by fire, two by leaving hot irons on the ironing board. Each time he built a finer home.

According to a 1901 newspaper clipping, found in the family Bible, he and three of his children probably set an unbroken record for picking east Texas cotton. They picked 1118 pounds in ten hours, which was an averagle of nearly 300 pounds per person. He was a very successful farmer with a large number of tenant farmers living on his farm. Between 1887-88 with his two brothers, Walton J. and John Henry Freeman, Lorenza moved to Texas from GA. Lorenza and wife Ola lived at Crim's Chapel and Pirtle until 1918 when they moved to Mt. Enterprise. Lorenza was the Justice of the Peace at Pirtle for 8 years and Mt. Enterprise for 20 years. He was a member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 23 A.F. and A.M. in Henderson, TX.

Lorenza and his sons were also farmers, with money crops being cotton, peanuts, sweetpotatoes and corn for feed.

Grandchildren tell that Lorenza throughout the year slept in his shirt and tie and long johns.

He was baptized in the Baptist Church in GA in 1873 by John Kytle. He remained actively involved in the Baptist Church throughout his life.. Parents: William G. FREEMAN and Harriet Rachel WHEELER .
