![]() Made by Brenda Hanrahan (jobrenda@oberon.ark.com) with Perle Cotton 8 thread. Great job Brenda! :) |
Body:
Row 1: (right side) Starting at lower end, ch 4, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 3 dc, sc in 3rd ch at end. (4 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Row 4: Repeat row 3.
Row 5: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in last sc-6 sc.
Row 6: Ch 1, turn, sc in each sc across.
Row 7-19: Do row 6.
Row 20: Ch 1, turn, dec as follows: insert hook in first sc and draw up a loop, insert hook in next sc and draw up a loop, yo and draw thru all 3 loops on hook, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, dec in next 2 sc--4 sc.
Row 21: Repeat row 6.
Row 22: Ch 1, turn, work dec in first 2 sc, work dec in next 2 sc--2 sc.
Head:
Ch 2, turn, work cluster as follows: keeping last loop of each dc on hook, work 2 dc in first sc and 3 dc in next sc, yo and draw thru all 6 loops on hook, ch 1 to hold. Do not break thread.
Antenna:
Antenna variation: Ch 25, draw up a loop in 2nd ch from hook and in next 3 chains, yo and yo through all 5 loops on hook, ch 1 to hold. Fasten off. From right edge attach thread in top of cluster toward right of first antenna, work second antenna the same.
Lower left wing:
Row 1: With wrong side facing, sk first dc-row and next sc-row at lower end, attach thread in next row, sc in same row, *ch 5, sk 3 sc rows, sc in edge of next row *; repeat from * to * once, ch 4, sl st in third ch from hook - picot, ch 2, sk 3 sc rows, 1 sc in edge of next row; repeat from * to * once - 4 loops.
NOTE: Rather than working the picot turning chain at the beginning of the rows, you may just work a ch-5 instead.
Row 2: Ch 3, turn (counts as first dc), work 2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in first loop - shell, ch 4, sk picot loop, (work 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in next loop--shell) twice.
Row 3: Work picot turning ch as follows: ch 4, sl st in third ch from hook, ch 2 turn, work shell in ch-3 space of first shell, ch 4, shell in next shell, ch 1, 7 dc over next ch- 4 loop, ch 1, shell in last shell.
Row 4: Work picot turning ch, shell in first shell, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp, dc in each of next 7 dc with ch-1 between each dc, ch 1, shell in next shell, ch 2, sc over center of next loop, ch 2, shell in last shell.
Row 5: Work picot turning ch, shell in first shell, ch 3, sk next space, sc in next sc, ch 3, work 3 dc, ch 5, 3 dc all in center of next shell, ch 3, sk next space, sc between first 2 dc, * ch 3, sc between next 2 dc; repeat from * 4 times, ch 3, shell in last shell.
Row 6: Work picot turning ch, shell in first shell, ch 4, sk next space, sc in next ch-3 loop, * ch 3, sc in next loop; repeat from * 3 times, ch 4, sk next space, work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in center of next shell--double shell, ch 4, sk next space, sc in next sc, ch 4, shell in last shell.
Row 7: Work picot turning ch, shell in first shell, ch 5, sk next space, sc in next sc, ch 5, shell in first ch-3 space of double shell. Mark next ch-3 space of same shell.
Row 8: Work picot turning ch, 6 dc in center of first shell, dc in each of next 3 dc of same shell, dc in each of first 3 dc of next shell, work 3 tr and 3 dtr (yo 3 times) all in center of same shell.
Row 9: Ch 3, turn, sl st in first dtr-picot. Break thread.
Left Upper Wing:
Row 7: From wrong side, attach thread in marked space (row 7), ch 3- counts as first dc of shell, complete shell in same shell, ch 5, sk next space, sc in next ch-3 loop, *ch 3, sc in next loop; repeat from * twice, ch 5, shell in last shell.
Row 8: Work picot turning ch, shell in first shell, ch 5, sk next space, sc in next ch-3 loop, * ch 3, 1 sc in next loop; repeat from * once, ch 5, shell in last shell.
Row 9: Work picot turning ch, shell in first shell, ch 5, sk next space, sc in next ch-3 loop, ch 3, 1 sc in next loop, ch 4, shell in last shell.
Row 10: Work picot turning ch, shell in first shell, ch 5, sk next space, sc in ch-3 loop, ch 5, shell in last shell.
Row 11: Work picot turning ch, shell in first shell, ch 5, sk next space, sc in sc, ch 5, shell in last shell.
Row 12: Work picot turning ch, 6 dc in center of first shell, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc of same shell, 1dc in each of first 3 dc of next shell, 6 dc in center of same shell.
Row 13: Ch 3, turn, sl st in first dc - picot. Break thread.
Right wing:
With right side of body facing, work same as left wing. Place sc's of row 1 to correspond with first side (note that upper wing of row 7 starts with right side facing).
Finishing:
If you desire, make the butterfly into a fridgie using a magnet glued to the back, an ornament using a hanger, or as a pin using a pinback glued to the back.
