Materials:
Steel Crochet Hook Size 9 hook
Size 20 thread (Finished size: 2.5-3 cm)
Starch
Note: Using #10 bedspread weight thread and a Steel Crochet Hook Size 5 hook: Finished size: 4.5-5 cm
Optional:
For Earrings: Earring Wires and jump rings OR Post Earrings, tissue, felt, and glue
Fridgie: Tissue, felt, magnet, and glue
For Ornament: Hanger thread
For Pin: Tissue, felt, pinback, and glue
Stitch Note: Rnds 1 - 4: beg ch-4 counts as 1 dc plus ch 1
Hat: (make 2 for a set of earrings or make one for a fridgie, ornament, or pin)
Rnd 1: Ch 6, sl st in 1st ch to join into ring, ch 4, (dc, ch 1) 7 times, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 4. (8 dc, 8 ch-1 sps)
Rnd 2: Sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 4, (dc, ch 1) in ea ch-1 sp, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 4. (8 dc, 8 ch-1 sps).
Rnd 3: Sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 4, dc in same ch-1 sp, (dc, ch 1, dc) in ea ch-1 sp around, sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch 4. (16 dc, 16 ch-1 sps).
Rnd 4 (brim): Ch 3, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, * 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in ch-1 sp, repeat from * around. Join in top of beg ch-3. (31 dc total-beg ch 3 counts as a dc).
Edging round:
Rnd 5: Sc in same st, * ch 3, dc in top of sc (picot), sc in same sp *, skip 1 st, sc in next st * rep from * around. Join with sl st to sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
Starch hat and mold over small ball of plastic wrap until dry.
Finishing:
Wire Earring: Attach jump ring in any picot, then attach jump ring to earring wire.
Post Earrings: Stuff back of hat with tissue, glue on a small round piece of felt for backing and glue on a post earrings.
Fridgie: Stuff back of hat with tissue, glue on a small round piece of felt for backing and glue on a magnet.
Ornament: Attach hanger thread to one of the picots.
Pin: Stuff back of hat with tissue, glue on a small round piece of felt for backing and glue on a pinback.
